About Me

For many years, I have wanted to be a professional writer. I looked forward to the day I could share my thoughts and ideas with a world of people I would never have the opportunity to meet. The Internet and the "blogosphere" have given almost everyone the opportunity to be a writer.  Some people write about their area of expertise. Others write about their personal experiences and what they have learned from them. People can write on any topic they choose, saying almost anything they want, and other people are going to be influenced by what they say – whether it is true or false, fact or opinion, helpful or harmful.

I believe in the power of words and the power of ideas. I take seriously the influence I might have on other people. When I write, I want to influence people, and I want to influence them for their benefit. I want to be sure I have something to say that is worthwhile, that is true, and is clearly communicated. That’s a big responsibility. It scares me to think I’m not always going to be right, I won’t always be convincing, and I certainly won’t always be liked for what I have to say. But there are many times when the message is more important than the messenger. That is why I write.

First, I want to tell you a little about myself. I am an American. My forefathers fought in the Revolutionary War, worked on farms and plantations, moved westward, survived the Great Depression, and instilled in their children a strong work ethic and sense of morality. I am a woman who grew up with the sometimes confusing message that I could be anything I wanted to be, but that it was most important for me to be a wife and mother. I am a wife and mother who walked away from her career to stay home and raise her kids. I am a law school graduate, a former trial attorney, a former college instructor, and a writer. I am an introvert who finds it hard to talk to people. But, beneath the surface, I am a passionate person who can speak with confidence about the things which truly move me.

The most important thing you should know about me is that I am a Christian. To me, being a Christian means a lot more than just saying I believe in God, or I attend church, or I’m not Jewish, Muslim, or atheist, so I must be a Christian. It means more than saying I am “saved” or “born again” or that I am active in my church, although I can truthfully say those things. For me, being a Christian means that what I believe about God and Jesus and the Bible affects every part of my life, from the choices I have made about work and family to the way I treat people and the way I see the world. It affects my political views, my social views, and what I believe the future holds – for me and for the whole world. Everything I have told you about myself affects what I write about and how I see those issues, but none more so than my Christian faith.

What do I write about? Well, I’m not a devotional or inspirational writer. I’m not going to give you advice on how to be a good wife or mom, how to be a leader of a women’s ministry, or how to find fulfillment in God. I’m not going to tell you who to vote for, encourage you to join any causes, or warn you about pending legislation that might affect your rights. What I will do is tell you what I think the Bible says about certain issues and challenge you to think about them, too. What you decide about the issues is up to you. What you do about your decisions is up to you. All I want to do is pass on to you what I believe to be true – what I have been convinced of on the basis of good evidence. As I’ve said before, I’m not always going to be right. I won’t always be convincing. And I certainly won’t always be liked for what I have to say. But that’s a risk I’m going to have to take. I intend to write about the things God lays on my heart. I’ll trust Him to find the right people to read it.
